Back on the Beach

It was good to back down on the beach a couple of weekends ago accompanied by my Polaroid 600 and a Lensbaby or two mounted on my Canon. I’ve not been using my Pinhole lens a great deal of late so with the bright light it was a good opportunity to put it through its paces again.
What I really enjoy with the Pinhole/Zone plate lens is the spontaneity and how unpredictable the results will be. Like many photographers the anticipated previsualized final image guides me to a large extent and I always strive to create images that conjure aspects of being abstract and unpredictable, but when ambling along a beach I’m also following similar principles of street photography, trying to get context and proximity to the subject. This process is augmented by the inevitable challenges of shooting blind as the view finder is black, rendering composition more or less random, the blur created with hand held slow shutter speeds also enhances the abstract and poetic nature of the final image.
The beaches along the eastern coast of Noosa, specifically from Peregian to Sunshine are where I tend to shoot, if the elements align with subject, light and location then the, hopefully, lack of people suits my visual goals perfectly.
These images were created at Sunrise Beach using Polaroid 600 colour film, my Pinhole/Zone plate lens and Lensbaby single glass optic.
